glad you’re here

Laura Olthoff, LSW

Licensed Social Worker | Counselor

Hi, I’m Laura! I’m passionate about walking alongside individuals as they navigate life’s challenges. I believe that everyone deserves a safe space to process emotions, build resilience, and discover their inner strength. My goal is to create a warm and supportive environment where you feel heard, valued, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life.

My Background

I have over 18 years of experience working with children, teens, and families in educational and ministry settings. I earned my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Illinois in 2006 and am a licensed social worker (LSW) actively working toward my clinical hours under the supervision of Julie Birky, LCSW. My background also includes five years of direct work with high-needs groups in Central Illinois, where I trained volunteers, organized food pantries, and helped individuals develop practical life skills such as budgeting and job searching.

My Approach

I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices into my work, helping clients reframe negative thought patterns and build healthier coping strategies. I believe in fostering long-term growth by enhancing self-awareness, communication skills, and relationship dynamics to create meaningful, lasting change.

My Areas of Focus

I provide counseling for:

  • Teens & Young Adults navigating transitions, stress, and self-identity

  • Adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, and life changes

  • Parents seeking guidance in raising children, including those with neurodiversity

I am dedicated to creating a supportive space where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and emotions. Whether you're facing a difficult transition, struggling with mental health concerns, or seeking guidance as a parent, I am here to support you on your journey.
